Midi Fighter Deckalized Mapping
Posted on: 26.05.2010 by Jodi Lacerra
There is a new official DJ Techtools Deck specific mapping for the Midi Fighter and Traktor Pro called, "MF_Deckalized.tsi". See the attached button layout for features and functionality.

Fun Fact: Ean has been using this mapping recently to DJ using solely two Midi Fighters (one for Deck A and one for Deck B) and an external mixer.

Upon importing the tsi, the controller manager will show four labeled device mappings (one for each Deck, A/B/C/D). You will need to set the In and Out Ports to your Midifighter(s) for the applicable Decks you want to control.

A cool new function (that may not be obvious to users at first) is the Sample Slicer. After using the Record/Sampler button to craft a sample on the fly, you can go into the Sample Slicer mode by holding Shift and pressing the Record/Sampler button again. To indicate you've moved into the Slicer mode, all of the bottom 8 button's LEDs will light up as a visual cue. You can then Slice up the sample to make some really interesting sounds by pressing any of those bottom 8 buttons. Try it out for yourself!

There is also a Juggle Mode which can be activated by pressing Shift and the Record/Sampler button while the Sampler is not active (the visual cue for this is every other of the bottom 8 LEDs lighting up). This makes the bottom 8 buttons Select or Store Hotcues 1-8 (you can delete the Cue points by using Shift and the appropriate Hotcue button).

Also, for those of you that are unaware, I created FOCUS versions of the MF Deckalized mapping that allow you to use 1 Midi Fighter to control either 2 decks (A/B) or all 4 decks (A/B/C/D). With the focus mappings you get all the same functions and you are able to control the Deck that is currently selected as the "Focus" (i.e., highlighted orange).

The only difference is that the (Shift+Sync) subfunction which was "Load Next Song" in the original Deckalized mapping is now "Deck Focus Select" which will toggle the Deck Focus through decks A/B or all four respectively (see Focus layout jpeg).

As we work to create and improve future Midi Fighter mappings, we will be taking your input into consideration so please share your thoughts!

For those familiar with the original Midi Fighter mapping (see http://www.djranking s.com/community /showthread.php?t=10137), the new mapping shares a similar architecture to the original but now offers more hands on features.

That's quiet a big change to the config, as you'd need 2 entire free modifiers and I'm sure switching back and forwards would do some odd stuff.

But if your just using one midifighter to bounce between A and B that's an easy change... 1MF between 2 decks easy (using focus and a modifer to make it go A to B, B to A and not through the loop)
2MF's 4 decks... o man that's going to be a bitch.

Otherwise, the issue may be the beatgrid of the track you are trying to sample. The sampler function is highly dependent on this and if the grid is off it will sound strange.

A last thing I would check is the tempo of the master clock (you can see it by clicking on the metronome by FX banks 1/3) while you use the sampler function. The auto clock can float around a bit sometimes and if you try to use the sampler while it's doing this it can sound like the sample is pitch warping.

I have a strong feeling that the mapping is fine but something is going wrong with the Traktor settings or beat grids for those who encounter this issue. Hopefully we can figure this out to avoid this for others in the future.
I have tried to load the tsi several times as is always recommended

The FX is set to slice see below for a a screen shoot

and here is some soundsamples
http://www.djranking s.com/community /showthread.php?t=18383

regarding the beatgrid mapping is fine but maybe something is wrong with my traktor settings.

I also get the feeling that the problem is on my setup and not a general issue.

Appreciate the help

Check your In/Out ports and make sure they are set to your Midi Fighter. As for deleting the other mappings, in the future if you want to simply add a mapping and keep your others use the "Add..." button under the Device listbox and select "Import" from there instead of using the large "Import" button on the bottom left of the Controller Manager.

Maybe try http://www.7-zip.org/. It's free, simple and is what I use to test unzipping everything I upload here.

Hi there,

I believe what has happened you have got "Reverse Grain" effect loaded into FX slot 3 & that should be the Beatslicer effect.

You can change that manually if you go onto the device manager section in the preferences & look up midifighter/FX slot 3 'effect select'

Then just choose the beatslicer from the drop-down menu.

This will enable correct effect setting & it should be fully working.

Cheers,

You can fix that manually if the following does not help.

Try :

Go to import option on the bottom left corner on controller manager & import the tsi file through there. Please note that if you are using multiple controller's , this will erase all other active tsi files.
This may be best option to do it this way , so that the GUi Layout , fx settings are as required on the map.
You can then import the other TSi files on the top drop down menu & remember to un-tick the box for FX settings so that does not mess up the MF.

--------------------

If this does not work, go to MF controller manager , look up Deck 3 FX select option & change it manually to Beatslicer. that should work.

For 2 decks you want Focus_AB file - the Focus file cycles through decks A,B,C,D

The current version of Traktor Pro is 1.2.6

Please make sure you get the latest update via Service Center.

Please make sure you follow Ean's step by step guide as per video on the first page of this thread , that should be pretty fail-safe way to get it working straight away.

Hey, So I downloaded the 1.0 version since me version of traktor pro is 1.22 but now the Rec function doesn't work. I mean the slicer is activated when I press the button, but it doesn't chop up the loop into 8 bits.

Maybe I'm missing something?

Are you using import option on the bottom left corner next to setup wizard?

When you use that choice, the new map will over-write the existing mappings.
So treat with caution...

However I would recommend using this approach when installing MF TSI file as you will want to have the FX Routings correctly to get the most of your mapping.

You can do it on External mixer Mode & Use the Deckalized mapping for Midifighters,

On Audio Routing :

Deck A - Audio 1 - 2 Out (VCI 100)
Deck B - Audio 3 - 4 Out (MF 1 )
Deck C - Audio 4 - 5 Out (MF 2)

Then when you have a look at the midi-editor on Traktor Pro , you need to allocate the device target VCI100 - Deck A , MF1 - Deck B , MF2 Deck C

If you are using Audio 8 Soundcard , you could use the 4th Deck as an Audio Through channel & use A mic etc to add FX or CD/Truntable/Drum-machine.

This can add a fun-dimention to your mixes & some added goodness.

Let me know how you are getting on.

Cheers,

Matti

Hi Mate,

The first thing I need to ask , do you have a 2 or 4 Channel soundcard? If you are intending to use 2 deck mixing then AB Deckalized mapping may be the one for you.

Here's the link to TSI file

http://www.djranking s.com/community /showthread.php?t=14435

There's also a very handy video By Ean Golden that explains how to install the file & get rocking with the Midifighter. : )

---------------------------------------------------

From troubleshooting point of view , you should check that you have the latest firmware. If you are using the MF from the first batch then it needs flashing with new firmware, if new batch then there should not be a any issues.

http://www.djranking s.com/community /showthread.php?t=11511

Let us know how you are getting on, hopefully this helps.

Cheers,

M

i too believe it would be nice to a see a tutorial video for control of both decks with 1 MF.

i tried both the FOCUS and the FOCUS AB.. It seems that the FOCUS is used for 4 decks whereas the AB is used for 2.

I am also noticing that none of my LEDs stay on like in the MF videos shown.. For example, in 'slice mode' nothing stays on.. Do I need to upgrade my firmware?
