Traktor Dj (ipad) Update thread, discuss...
Posted on: 01.05.2013 by Lannie Kutay
Well we have had traktor dj for almost 2 months and we just received our first update.

What's New in Version 1.1.0

- Improved keylock algorithm for enhanced time-stretching
- External mixer mode (send individual deck outputs to a stereo out on an interface)
- First time sync options (checks for existing Dropbox folder when enabling metadata sync)
- Hot cue behavior for stopped deck is now CUE instead of CUP

some much needed improvement, but still a ways off.

-we definitely need a better settings menu with more options.
-maybe more efx
-different pages with mixer and bigger xy pads

your thoughts? if your even still using the app....

Good call! I would be happy to have track management. Ratings, comments and the ability to just run through tracks like a simple music player. I'm sure it would require a new layer for a simple player tho. But it would be tits if I could switch over to a screen that has a big ass play/pause, track skip, star rating and title/cover of the track. Would ask for a volume too but in my car I only have one level.

I love the track prep aspect of the app! I'm just too deep into TSP top layout with the pad though... Prepping tracks while chillin, Done...and thank you! a simple player I can run through while I am putting a set list together.... Please!!

That's good to hear.

I see this update as more of a functional rather than a performance update. Generally the main requests have been audio output routing requests and I believe this update addresses those really well. I just believe they were just higher on the priority list.

Yeah this is without doubt a big deal. There is a huge market of Traktor DJ app users that have no interest in Traktor Pro and it makes sense to enable this feature so that people can use a cheap card such as the UCA.

Of course the upside for NI is that it will no doubt lead many people to go onto buy Traktor Pro and move onto controllers etc.

Traktor DJ may just be a gateway drug to Traktor Pro.

Either way it's a smart move.

It's nice to see NI release an update fairly soon to this app, even if it doesn't really address many of the main requests from Traktor users. Definitely interesting to see where this goes, I've been using my iPad for a lot of music duties the last few months, including DJing. Traktor DJ has definitely taken over from djay as my go to iOS DJ app.

OK new update today

-With Some VERY useful features.

What's New in Version 1.2.0

- TRAKTOR KONTROL Z1 integration
- Route monitor output to headphone output when an audio interface is connected
- Fixed split output for single stereo audio interfaces

your thoughts?
Will some of you who have fallen off using it, perhaps give it another shot because of the new features?
Also who is planing to use the "Z1" with this?

I'd love it if you could sync two iPads together to run 4 decks (2 decks on each screen). And if they add all the effects and features of Traktor Pro and make it midi mappable i would switch in a heartbeat.

YOU'RE TELLING ME! I've been dreaming about this ever since I first got my iPad 2 (which I'm still running). Would love to show up at a gig with just an iPad running Traktor, MIDI Fighter, and A6. I'm glad I'm not the only one that wants this.

Just wait until reloop release their own dj app which will of course be much better than traktor

Note: TRAKTOR DJ currently allows to select one audio device at a time. You cannot use an external audio interface and the internal headphone jack of your iPad at the same time.
Taken from http://www.native-instruments.com/kn...+Compatibility

Does the cueing in Traktor DJ not allow you to use the headphone output on the interface?

Got nothing to do with power mate. The Audio 8 does not have a xmos microcontroller and is not, and cannot be made Class Compliant. You can hook it up the the National Grid, power is not the issue.

Shame, but when NI first made it around 7 years ago, iPads were not even a twinkle in Apples eye.

If your soundcard has 2 Stereo outputs, you need to plug the headphones into the iPad before starting TDJ. This will enable the iPad headphone output to be used for the monitor channel. This is a workaround and will work better in the next version.

Unfortunately this means that the single stereo Behringer uca222 does not allow you to monitor via the iPad.

Your soundcard needs 2 stereo outputs for this feature.

I guess you can hide the soundcard now and monitor from the iPad, even use the soundcard to angle the ipad against..?

The uca is a 2 out card, so you'd gain nothing apart from the 2 rca inputs.
I don't believe you can use the headphone jack on ios when a class compliant audio interface is connected to the device. You have to use the interface's outs...

i received my replacement TA6 for my dead A4DJ yesterday ... And this morning I wake up to an update!
Tried the External Mixer Mode, works great! Almost tempted to take it to my gig tomorrow evening as extra decks to see how it sounds

I too would like to see an option to send the master audio through the iPad 30 pin connector and monitor cueing through the headphone socket. Or better yet I would like to see a new NI Audio 2 that is class compliant and can also charge the iPad while in use. In my opinion the NI Audio 6 is too big, heavy and expensive to use as a dedicated Traktor DJ audio interface.

I would also like to see MIDI controller capabilities and more Traktor Pro 2 FX.

Although I have it installed, I don't use it. I'm holding out for iCloud/iTunes match support and better track prep capabilities. I'm less concerned about the performance aspect.

I would love to see an indicator that shows which tracks I have already played. With too many tracks, its hard to remember which ones you've played and which one's you haven't.

yep... still not seeing this. I have my class complaint sound card plugged in via the camera connection kit, and while this does output my main out, i cannot get my headphone cue to work out of the ipad out simultaneously. In fact, i dont even see the option to select outputs 1&2 or 3&4.

Was really hoping this update addressed this issue, maybe i'm just not seeing it?

Not in this version. I have requested Dropbox support but that won't allow metadata to be transfered so I'm not sure it will be high on priority just yet.
