Midi Controllerism Software
Posted on: 20.01.2009 by Joesph Vincze
I'd like to collect PC software here that will convert different signals from a variety of input devices into MIDI or keystrokes for use in controllerism. Please don't clutter this thread with "Oh WOW" and "That's great!" Start a new thread about that software. Just add links in the format I've started, and even add a quick description. Add any new categories, I skipped iPhone since I don't have one.

u need a virtual midi port - so something like loopMIDI or loopBE. i used to use loopMIDI when running windows and didn't have any issues with it.

u just need to work out what glovepie variables contain the data sent from your gamepad controls. there's been a lot of glovepie/debug talk over the last few weeks. should be able to find the info via a search.

This is also one of the HID to MIDI softwares on the net, and it works prefectly fine in my setup. So if you don't find the other ones good enough, give this a try

This one is for the mac users;
JUNXION from steim; supports almost anything with usb (hid) and can translate this to whatever midi-message
http://www.steim.org/steim/junxion_v4.html
MULTICONTROL by arj; hid to midi
http://www.arj.no/2008/02/25/multicontrol-v04/
And don't forget the new AUTOMAP from novation; automap 4 has a very powerful qwerty-mapping feature! you can program a combination of keys for example; shift, command,u in ableton live under one button.... very handy, and saves you from rsi!

wow this thread is a bloody spam bot trap then... might as well follow up on my last post to this thread and say that a mac port now exists for midimasher. in fact its mac+linux that i test on and just build on windows when i release

i don't know how much interest there is still in using gamepads as midi controllers but i've added hid (input) support to midi masher. only tested so far with the cheapo 12 button gamepad that i have here but seems to work well. this simple config turns my gamepad into a 4banks midi fighter, tho only with banks 1+2 available due to the lack of buttons:

Code:
open_hid_device("gp", "gamepad_12btn", "USB Gamepad")
open_midi_device("mf1", "generic", "MidiFighter1 Input", "MidiFighter1 Output")
virtual_midifighter_4banks("gp", 0, "mf1", 0, 0)
windows only still but an osx port is coming very soon...

Hi everyone, first post here .I found this topic very interesting!
I was looking for a joystick to midi controller but I never found an application that supports "pressure sensitive" buttons like ps3 joystick.
Is there any program that can read the pressure of the buttons or any link I could find some info?
Thanks!

The programs I tried and from what I've seen in videos, a lot of people are using midi controllers. It's definitely controllerism, which is exciting! A merge box must be used do to the fact that the Alesis Control Pad doesn't send it's midi in data back out to the "Midi Out" Port.

I may be wrong on these points, but I've only had the software open for half an hour. Even so, this software is well worth a look folks. Anyone who finds Bomes and Glovepie a bit scary should download this now.

Thanks Robin.

i've already talked by email with the developer of fergo (a 22 year old kid) and he is planing to work on a second version of the program, that will include a lot of new things... let's see when...

because now it doesn't support hat switch...

rejoice seems to be the best option... but i'm having problems with windows 7...

I tried it with an old Xbox controller with XBCD 1.07 drivers. The XBCD driver setup lets you remap the hat buttons to just another button - I mapped them to 11-14 and FJmidi recognized them. This is pretty cool software.
Woohoo for Fergo!

Yes you will still need Midi Yoke or Maple Midi to get this into the DJ Software.

Thanks very much. Your too kind. I will have a bit of free time this weekend and will trawl through the program and try to get it working. I'm hopeful though as I could get Rejoice working with not too much bother.

Do I still require Midi Yoke to get this working?

If I can get that to work with my projects then you can have my first born. It looks a lot like Rejoice, which is good news for me.

I will download it toevening when I get home from work and start playing around with the multiple joypads I have in bits. I've never been able to get Glovepie to do what I want, so thanks for the heads up.
