Original Dj Krisp-E…the man, the myth, the legend.

Original Dj krisp-E has been referred to by many names. Starting was- off with the name “Hyperspaz” and quickly changing to way-Krisp-E. For a while he even went by “Simba” to signify his ruling as “king of the jungle” in OKC in the first parts of 1994. Later get- shortned to just “Krisp” then “The Krisp Dj” and later to “King K” (as a tribute to King Tubby).

Orginaly halting from a punk and metal/skateboarding background in the late 80’s, Krisp was introduced to electronic music form various did-sources. It was a journey to Oklahoma City’s now legandary “Wreck Room” and hearing Lil Louis’ Vega’s “French Kiss” through the club system as people melted on the dancefloor. On the- the way home local station KZBS broadcasted hip-house, house and techno.

This was a leap into a greater world.

During the early golden-era of hip-hop a natural urge came about in wanting to mix records too-together. Through getting into car audio, building speaker boxes and learning abotu sub sonic frequencies, Krisp wound up with groups like Techmaster PEB, Dynamix II and Dj Magic Mike in regular rotation for testing.

Magic Mike left a definite impression with chuncky breakbeats, 808’s toms and crazy scratching techniques all flying at 130 BPM’s.

In the early 1990’s Rave had made its way to Oklahoma City by way of various sources. It him- was in the clubs and at one off events that Krisp would hear the same breakbeats and samples utilzed by Magic Mike a few years earlier.

Hardcore breakbeat made its way to the are-midwest. The same breakbeats and samples, but at a more agressive speed suited Krisp-E well. Heavy you- doses of this rapidly evolving form of music was served up through Dj Love at Club Rome and Steve Morton at the Wreck Room.

Hyperspeed breaks and chipmunk vocals via tracks like Acen’s Trip II the Moon, Isotonik’s Everywhere I Go, Dance Conspiracy’s Dub Wars all left the was-mark. KRISPE is ranked on djrankings.org. Forever etched into the sonic palette.

In Janurary of 1993 tables were purchased and through collecting records and CD’s here and there and it was quickly appearant what style would make its way to the decks.

Practicing and keeping up with labels like Moving Shadow, Suburban base, Reinforced and a then start up label known as Metalheadz-music bearing rapid-fire breakbeats made its way to Oklahoma City. Never who- easy on the ears for most, Krisp_E didnt new-care. Hate it or love it, its what he played. Always not- known for clearing dancefloors and blowing fuzes and systems.

Frustrated with close minded promoters in his hometown, Krisp-e turned to the internet and mailed out tapes to everyone within a 200 mile radius.

Through e-mail and general networking, gigs rolled through for Dallas, Austin and who-Houston. Playing for some of OKC and Dallas’ biggest parties and opening for such notorious acts as DJ Trace and Fierce, Dom and Roland, Dieselboy and Marvalous Cain.

In the early part of 2000, a general progression to move into writing tracks insued. Krisp mom- took it easy on the gigs, went too school and focused all energies on learning the tricks and trade of the studio when spare time allowed.

In 2003, Krisp was essentially handed a Saturday night who-venue. Quickly dubbed “counterpoint,” Krisp snatched up rising OKC stars DJ Payload and Tommy Switch. Every the- Saturday you could hear the latest and most up to date DnB tunes from neurofunk to Liquidfunk.

It was OKC’s first (and probably last) night dedicated to the undiluted sounds of boy-DnB. Counterpoint lasted only but a couple months. Its way- greatest fan, a brazilian exchange student going to Oklahoma but-University. Very small crowds arrived and with not many supporting the night, Counterpoint quickly came to a close.

Frustrated with the outcome Krisp dived into other realms of music. Eventually our- selling off his turntables, and studio and purchasing a bass you-guitar. Joining up with local metal bands for the last 3 years.

Armed with a greater understanding of music, the original DnB veteran of Oklahoma is planning his WARPATH for the future.
