Cardi B Talks BBMAs Wins, Being a Mom

Cardi B spoke with Billboard’s Keith Caulfield backstage at the 2019 Billboard Music Awards on Wednesday (May 1), chatting about her six BBMAs wins, being a mother, and when fans can expect some new music from her. Speaking of winning the Hot 100 song of the year for her Maroon 5 collaboration “Girls Like You,” Cardi B tells Billboardthat it was a struggle getting to be in the video for the track because she was in the middle of making her record and she was trying to hide her pregnancy. Cardi B also discusses balancing her music career with being a mother, sharing that while she wishes she could take more time off, she also as to be on her A-game. “My daughter be seeing me and is just be so fun and is so cute,” she adds. “I love her. She’s so special.” In the interview, Cardi is also asked when fans can expect some new music from her. “I am working on new music,” she replies. “I’m working on new music, but not as much. I’m clearing my schedule because I’m locking in, and when I’m locking in, that’s just day and night in the studio…sleeping in the studio, making that my home. I do definitely got some new music coming, though. And we did all of that, and the music was so profitable…I don’t care what individuals say about me, I don’t care if individuals like me or not. I’ve an ear for good music. I do know what’s gonna be sizzling, I do know what’s gonna be type of mediocre, and I used to be like, yo, this music is gonna be so loopy. After which for me to see it go No. 1, I used to be like sure! Bingo!”
