What is ‘a state of trance’ to you? For me a state of trance is floating away with your eyes closed, on all beautiful melodies and atmospheres, and being taken on a mental ride, and escape all day’s reality. While with dj’ing it’s the kick you get from playing that special tune, you really want to play so bad, and seeing that crowd react! The crowd will always get the DJ in a state of trance as well!"At some point you need to incorporate modern things/techniques and give that your own twist. Otherwise you’re standing still."
Has the music affected other areas in your life? If so please explain.
Definitely, music is a big part of my life ever since I started collecting mixtapes (1988). From then on it gradually got more serious and I got involved more and more, first DJ-ing (1994) and later on producing (1997). My girlfriend sometimes makes some complaints about the amounts of time I put in the music.
Do you have any pre-gig ritual?
Usually 5 or 10 minutes before I will go on I still get nervous, it’s only for a couple of minutes, so I try to close off and focus on the crowd and feel their energy.
What has been the high point of your careers so far?
Tiësto playing Witness at his concert, getting signed to ID&T.
Any other exciting stuff going on we should know about?
Well things seem to finally be rolling again. Our radio show Xposed is still climbing in listeners every month, we’ve got a lot of studio mojo a the moment, and one great track after another is flying out of both studios! And we’re saving up all tracks for the album. Eventually, we want to make a selection together with Armada, with what’s suited and what not! So very exciting times! Also loads of cool gigs, which you can check at our my space until our new website has finished.
What are your all time top 10 records that you still drop every now and then?
Well this is rather difficult, but to name ten in no particular order:
All James Holden productions and remixes
All Katana productions and remixes
Boca – Miami (Silvio Ecomo remix)
D- Factor - The Wrong shake
Mark Norman – Overkill
Max Walder – Crown
Ron Hagen & Pascal M. - On stream
Secret Cinema - Timeless Altitude
3 Drives on A Vinyl - Greece 2000
Signum – Afterglow
Do you get a bigger buzz from DJing or Producing?
Talking in terms of “getting a buzz”, DJ-ing is more pleasing, because we directly see the feedback from the crowd and we are partying ourselves too when we DJ. Producing however, gets us excited in a whole different way, anticipating in our studio on what the reactions of the musiclovers will be…
We get the biggest buzz from playing our own productions, having everybody whistling and going crazy. :D This combination of DJ-ing and Producing is absolutely magical… just bringing our OWN sound and watching the people enjoying it.
Where do you see Trance music in 5 years?
In 5 years from now there will most likely be a change in the overall sound of Trance, and it will still be a flavor that many dance producers will use…Styles & genres keep melting together and will still do so in 5 years.
