"I have learned that you have to work 24/7 none-stop to do this job. You have to be really respectful with everyone because word spreads fast and you can go down the drain real quick."
When did you first decide you wanted to work in music?
I decided when I was at school, I saw a DJ working in a club where I usually went to dance and I spent all night looking at him, after that night I decided that it was the job of my future. Then I met Gianni, who started one of the strongest record store of the south of Italy, Test Pressing, and Peppe who was a very young producer and since then we started together the Daddy’s Groove project, dedicated to our fathers that didn’t believe too much in this kind of job.
How do you get the inspiration from when producing music?
Inspiration comes from everywhere: a gig in a club, a track you hear on the radio that has nothing to do with the music you produce, a special kick sample, a dinner out with your family/friends... very often your own culture is the main inspiration.
Do you have any pre gig rituals? Yes, while we are going to the club we decide together just the first track to play and who of us will start. And then from there we’ll see step by step. Would you describe your sound as characteristically Italian? How would you best describe the essential Italian sound? As I said before, the background of each of us has enabled us to get the sound of Daddy’s Groove. House sound that blends melodies with often potential to crossover plus groove sometimes on house sometimes on techno based. We always have a maniacal attention on the sound! At the end of the day we are pretty fair from an “Italian” sound, we spend most of our time around traveling and touring so we get the best we can from all over. Speaking of Ibiza, over the years, you have become regulars at David Guetta’s. What is your favorite aspect of performing at Pacha and why? Yes, I’ve been playing FMIF for four years now. I played also at the SHM Masquerade Motel and I really love to play in Ibiza at Pacha. There are people from all over the world, you can always play new sounds and try your new stuff. And it’s amazing because there I have the chance to play with the best DJs in the world. How do you feel that DJing and producing has changed over the last few years? In the past it was more difficult for sure. You had to play with vinyl and you had to do that properly! Then to produce you needed big studios and big and expensive machines! Now for the young generations it is more easy, you could do anything with a laptop but on the other hand now the quality has to be much better because there is much more completion all around. You’ve to challenge yourself maybe working with such great artists like Madonna, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, and it means also to be a pop star, so it’s an unbelievable and exciting experience to do. You were residents at Fuck Me I’m Famous this year – what’s special about playing Pacha, and specifically, David’s FMIF night. There was the amazing new DJ booth at Pacha this year and so we all found it fantastic to play there. The club has such a great atmosphere and history that we feel privileged to have had a residency there. We are even more proud to have been residents at David’s night because he is one of our all time DJ heroes. He has done so much to help our career which meant that every single night was special. We have had such a great time! What advice would you give to fans that want to become like you?
We don’t have many advice actually, the only one is to work a lot doing this job with heart and passion as we do. If you can dream it, you can do it!
