Even though Daft Punk got excluded from the DJ-Rankings on the count they do not actively DJ, we still get excited when news regarding the legendary media-shy duo surface. Who knows, maybe they’ll start performing again in light of the upcoming album? Yes, you read correctly – a new LP from the gods of electro themselves. We will just have to hope these aren’t just rumors the French newspaper Le Parisien reported a few days ago.
“Daft Punk has found a new home,” the Le Parisien report reads. “After three albums with EMI, the helmeted duo is preparing to sign with Sony for its next album.” Last studio album saw the light of day 8 years ago, when Daft Punk was signed with EMI, releasing ’Human After All’. The fourth album is set to release through Sony’s subsidiary, Columbia, in the Spring, 2013. Le Parisien also drew attention to Guy-Manuel de Homem Christo being spotted in Paris at the launch of Kavinsky’s new album
“All I can say is those guys are geniuses,” Chic frontman Nile Rodgers said of working with the duo in an interview at Camp Bestival. “To think that after all these years we’ve been trying to get together, they just show up at my apartment in New York City and the vibe between us is so powerful and so strong – it’s unbelievable. Spiritually and artistically, working with them was as good as anything I’ve ever done. It’s as great as being in the studio with Bowie, it’s as great as being with Bernard Edwards and it’s as great as the best stuff I’ve ever done with Duran or Madonna.”
It’s also rumored, the legendary Giorgio Moroder has teamed up with Daft Punk as well.. We’ll just have to hope and see if these reports are on target! And if they’ll start touring together, we can suggest that DJ-Rankings would take them back to the DJ family once more!
