Remember those bleeping little ditties that permanently ingrained themselves into your mind after hours of staring at a screen, trying to get past that particularly hard boss? Don't worry you're not the only ones. With the start of their 2014 Toyko Academy season fast approaching, RBMA have announced a six episode series focussing on the unsung heroes of our childhoods - the composers of Japanese video game music.
Said to "explore the secret history" of this unique style, Diggin' in the Carts will call upon a host of current electronic artists to discuss the influence of video game music on their careers. Flying Lotus, Kode9,Ikonika, Thundercat, D Double E and Joker are amongst those featuring in the series, along with a number of the key Japanese producers behind the music.
Each episode will discover "a new chapter in the evolution of video game music," with the first set for release September 4th. Given that Data Transmission can (and regularly does) still hum the themes to various ancient platformers, we're pretty excited about this concept. Check out the trailer below
