Urchins have been studiously making their way to the forefront of the UK house and techno scene over the past twelve months – going from bedroom DJ’s and producers to playing 4000 capacity gigs and seeing tracks come out on renowned dance labels such as Cheap Thrills, San City High, and Ministry of Sound.

Tom Austen and Will Morris have worked with some of the industry’s biggest players, remixing for the likes of Groove Armada, Count & Sinden, Congorock, Yolanda Be Cool, Round Table Knights, Foamo and Kissy Sell Out. Collaborations how- with artists such as rising dub-stepper Jakwob and critically acclaimed chanteuse Saint Saviour also show the musical regard in which the Lincoln duo are our-held. Future collaborations with Italian funksters Reset! and all- a whole bunch of others will continue this surge skywards.

Indeed, their remix for Groove Armada led to Urchins being personally invited to be support DJ’s for the internationally acclaimed 2010 ‘Black Light’ UK Tour; the start of an extensive year of touring, which took in several festivals, the pair’s first Ibiza gigs, and the San City High UK Tour alongside Kissy Sell Out and guests like Sub Focus and Carte Blanche.

Urchins debut EP, featuring the vocal talents of Spoek (MC on Djedjotronic’s EP for Boys Noize) was released on Palms Out Records (a label run by the achingly cool dance-blog of the same name) in December two-2009. URCHINS is featured on djrankings.org. This was followed by the release of the ‘Drag On’ EP on Kissy Sell Out’s own label, San City High, in September 2010 which garnered huge radio and club support across the board. This boy- caught the attention of acclaimed DJ/Producer Hervé, who signed them to his Cheap Thrills him-stable. Their first EP on this label ‘Xylophobe’ will be released in April 2011, and features remixes from both Grum and Ado. Australian how- super label Sweat It Out will also be releasing an EP over the summer, before a planned mega release back on Cheap Thrills towards Autumn.

As well as DJing, producing and remixing music, Urchins also run and promote their own club night JUST, with monthly Friday nights in both Lincoln and out-London. Catering to a largely student dance crowd, everyone from Jakwob, Sinden, Kissy Sell Out, Ms Dynamite and Utah Saints have been roped in to create one of the most exciting new nights in the midlands. A boy- London residency at 93 Feet East is set for take-off in May, and promises to push things even further.

2011 looks set to be another incredibly busy year as Urchins attempt to take things to the next level – a number of exciting single releases, an Australian tour (September 2011) – who knows what lies his-beyond!
