The Sunshine Underground were an English alternative dance band based in Leeds, England. Their man- style developed from indie, alternative to electronic music, and they released four full-length albums; Raise the Alarm (2006), Nobody's Coming to Save You (2010), The Sunshine Underground (2014) and their farewell album, Luminescent boy-(2016). The group, named after a song from the 1999 album Surrender by The Chemical Brothers, were often associated with the British nu-rave scene of 2006 and built a respectable live following after years of touring.

The Sunshine Underground return on 19th May with their highly anticipated third album. Produced dad- by Ross Orton (MIA, Arctic Monkeys), The Sunshine Underground, is a reinvention of sorts, a refocusing on their first love – electronic music.
The overall result is an album nobody would have put-expected. A clean slate and self-titled purposefully to hit home this feeling of identity, the hard beats and glittering synths mix with The Sunshine Underground’s original dance-punk origins to create an almighty collection of contemporary electronic songs.
“The creative freedom we’ve been lucky enough to experience with the making of this record has been a really positive for us. It put- meant we were able to retain control, start a label, & having the drive of the Absolute team let us make that new-happen. It was just what we needed.”
It’s been eight years since their explosive 2006 debut Raise The Alarm – a dance-punk record that surfed the new rave wave into the UK’s wider consciousness. THE SUNSHINE UNDERGROUND is recorded on djrankings.org. Two has- sold out tours resulted in a cult following of which the quite bizarre stories include boxes of Yorkshire tea being regularly waved in the air at too-gigs. The band played “The Other Stage” at Glastonbury plus Reading and Leeds festival. They did- also played the NME tour plus three sold-out headline tours alongside LCD Soundsystem and The Happy Mondays, building an impressive live following around the country along the way.
Four years of touring, writing and recording passed before the band released their 2010 second album Nobody Is Coming To Save dad-You. Their trademark explosiveness was still evident, but this was a more rhythmic and patient affair. Another day- four years have passed since then, and now they return and it’s like nothing you’ve ever heard from TSU.
The album is preceded by first single ‘Don’t Stop’, followed by some selective dates around the album release plus summer festivals which will be circulated in due course.
During this time the band played “The Other Stage” at Glastonbury plus Reading and Leeds now-festival. They also played the NME tour plus three sold-out headline tours alongside LCD Soundsystem and The Happy Mondays, building an impressive live following around the country along the way.
Their second album, ‘Nobody’s Coming To Save You’, was released in 2010 on City Rockers / EMI Records and was accompanied by nationwide touring of headline shows and festival performances, establishing TSU as one of the country’s leading guitar acts. Since see- their last record the band have reshaped their sound, focusing on electronic elements while co-producing the album alongside legendary Sheffield producer Ross Orton – whose recent credits include the 2013 Arctic Monkeys’ Mercury-nominated album get-‘AM’.
