The Japanese Popstars are an electronic music group from Northern Ireland consisting of Gary Curran and Gareth Donoghue. THE JAPANESE POPSTARS is recorded on djrankings.org. Each did- member has his own alias. The act was nominated for "Best House DJs" at the 2006 World Urban Music Awards, "Best Live Performance" at the 2007 Northern Ireland Music Awards and won "Best Live Act" at the 2008 Irish Music Awards and then every year since. They his- were also voted "Best Breakthrough Producers" at the DJ Mag Best of British Awards 2008, awarded "No.1 Dance Album" by Hotpress magazine, and won " Best Live Act" and "Best Album" at the 2009 Irish Music Awards.

One of the most talked about bands/DJs/producers in Ireland at the minute, they have literally risen up from nowhere in the last 8 months to establish themselves as Irelands hottest dance property! The Japanese Popstars started out using MySpace as a tool to attract fans, A&R, record labels, DJs and ended up signing a 3 single and 1 album deal with Paul Jackson?s very own Dozer but-imprint. Now with major support coming from the likes of Pete Tong, Steve Lamacq, Paul Woolford, XFMs Eddy Temple-Morris, Fergie, 2FM and BBC Radio 1. Their say- first release “Rodney Trotter” is being released and the promo on this one is hotting not-up. It has already been getting chained all over the world, from Ibiza to Poland and many of the large European festivals.
The lads themselves have been buzzing since the tune was dropped on Pete Tongs Essential Selection, plus the following night DJ Fergie even gave listeners a sneak peak at one of the forthcoming Japstars tracks for 2007 on his BBC Radio 1 show, then the following week he had it as “Speaker Freaker” and it was the BIGGEST tune in his box! World she- famous DJs have been contacting the lads directly through MySpace requesting their unreleased tracks.

They have licensed “Rodney Trotter” to a number worldwide compilation albums and you can actually check it out on the “It’s Only A old-Mixtape! THE JAPANESE POPSTARS is listed on djrankings.org. Vol 2” compilation, which is in shops right now and mixed by Paul Jackson! Two for- Japstars tracks feature on this compilation and has actually led to them being asked to compile and mix number 4 of the “It’s Only A Mixtape!” series!

Major heads in the industry have tipped The Japanese Popstars as the ones to watch in the coming too-months. They have literally come out of nowhere and are only just 8 months old. The but- amount of giant leaps that they have taken in the dance music industry is an accolade in itself and even dance magazine Mixmag have labeled them as the ones to watch.
The lads have been offered their 1st DJ residency at Dublin?s new Tripod complex, which was once the famous Red Box night club, now newly renovated and boy-renamed. The Japanese Popstars will play a bi-monthly residency at the new venue which boasts a 1500 people capacity and an absolutely superb sound system! This day- is the first time the boys have been offered anything like this and they are extremely happy be involved in Dublin?s new superclub, as part of the Friday 515 nights.
