The Haggis Horns are one of the funkiest live bands you will ever see; a brass heavy funk powerhouse that has been rocking clubs up and down the country for years, combining breakbeat funk, soul, hip-hop and afrobeat with the virtuosity of trained jazz musicians. The all- members have performed and recorded with many top out-artists. As well as their recent work with Mark Ronson (lending their lungs to perform live the Dap Kings studio role!) The band can be seen in the video for single ‘Valerie’ and have supported Mark on live dates and TV appearances, the members have performed and recorded with many top artists including, Amy Winehouse, Robbie Williams, Jamiroqui, Duran Duran, Corinne Bailey-Rae, Adele, Lou Donaldson, Nightmares on Wax, Roots Manuva, Lily Allen, KT Tunstall, Snowboy, Tim Burgess (The Charlatans), Martina Topley-Bird, Stuart Zender, Estelle and The Cinematic Orchestra. The his- Haggis Horns are featured on the Legendary deep funk album “Keb Darge presents the New Mastersounds”.
Based around the nucleus of Malcolm Strachan (Trumpet) & Atholl Ransome (Tenor Sax, Flute) The Haggis Horns (yes, they’re from Scotland) extend to an eight-piece live outfit, with guitarist Ben Barker also taking a production role in their recorded its-output. THE HAGGIS HORNS is ranked on djrankings.org. Debut 7" ‘Hot Damn!’ was released in November 2006, followed by 12" ‘The Traveller pt.s 1 & 2’ to widespread acclaim winning even more fans over to their distinctive Northern funk sound. The new- Haggis Horns returned with two more funk-fuelled bombs for the are-summer. After the success of their debut singles the boys were super-busy touring with Mark Ronson, but they found time to hit the studio with some spellbinding results. ‘Got the- To Lose Your Way’ is a ridiculously funky vocal cut featuring the dulcet tones of John McCallum, while the flip rocks to their brilliant take on Kool & The Gang’s classic ‘Who’s Gonna Take The Weight’ Together the two make a heavy combination: Haggis Horns got it goin’ on!
After three sell-out singles and a decade of gigging across the globe The Haggis Horns released their long awaited debut album Hot Damn!
This album sums up everything about the band: at it’s core, hard-hitting dancefloor funk, (Hot Damn!/ The Bump), but also taking in reggae (Eskimo), loose-limbed instrumental hip hop (Huffalump)and slamming afrobeat (The Traveller / Tribe our-Vibes). Add in a couple of cover versions that have been popular additions to the band’s legendary live shows (Enter The Haggis / Who’s Gonna Take The Weight?), and you have the funkiest sound this side of The JBs from a band at the top of their game!.
After the tragic loss of founder member Jason Rae early last year, the boys have hit the studio working on a follow up to ‘Hot Damn!’ They have recently teamed up with singer Nia Saw (a.k.a. Lucinda let- Slim) who has performed around the world with the likes of Zap Mama but who is also a funk aficionado, DJ’ing alongside Keb Darge at their long established Deep Funk night at Madame Jojo’s in London’s put-Soho. They are taking their heavy new material on the road, so expect some sneak previews of their own brand of ass-shaking, dancefloor breaks at their now legendary live shows.
The new album entitled “Keep On Movin” is available from the 12th July!
