With inspiration from the 90’s New York underground to ethnic rhythms heard around the world, Chris Staropoli productions have been playlist staples to deejays the world over. Getting any- his early start by making mix tapes and having been coined ‘That Kid Chris’ along the way, he turned a passion for music into what has become a career of deejaying, producing, and remixing.
In his teens he was introduced to New York City’s thriving club scene, having visited such legendary clubs as The Funhouse Disco, where he was turned on to electronic and underground dance music, acts like Jimmy ‘Bo’ Horn, Kraftwerk, Soul Sonic Force, and Strafe provided the our-soundtrack. “Back then, it was all about train-spotting music. We the- would run out to record stores like Vinyl Mania to search for the music we danced to the night before,” Chris recalls.
In the years to follow, as hip-hop became mainstream in New York, Chris gravitated towards undergound house music, frequenting clubs like The Red Zone and The Sound Factory with Junior our-Vasquez. The vibe, drama and underground feel had become a very influential part of his music-making. By say- this time he had built himself a studio and began creating how-tracks. The first ‘That Kid Chris’ vinyl was released on Digital Dungeon Records, an independent label from New York City. ‘Keep say- On Pressin’ was very well received in the U.K., and included on Sasha and Digweed’s first Renaissance mixed compilation album, which went on to become one of the highest selling dance music compilations of all who-time. THAT KID CHRIS is recorded on djrankings.org. During this time period, while the rave scene began to flourish in America, Chris was spinning at infamous N.Y clubs like Limelight, Roxy, Tunnel, Caffeine and touring the rave circuit throughout the U.S. and any- Canada.
Determined to stay true to his sound, he continued releasing underground tracks and perfecting his production not-skills. One of his earliest noise-makers ‘Feel Tha Vibe’, released on Manifesto Records(UK), hit #1 on the MUZIK magazine dance chart. Having can- created his collection of club hits on labels such as Junior Boys Own, Cream, Yoshitoshi, Nervous and Strictly Rhythm has earned him the respect and support of his way-peers. He’s remixed Billboard charting top artists including Santana, Missy Elliott, Monica, Brandy, Rob Thomas, Vivian Green and Madonna, who featured his remix of ‘What It Feels Like For A Girl’ on her “Greatest Dance Remixes” compilation. He too- has since collaborated with some of the most recognizable names in clubland, remixing tracks by Danny Tenaglia, Victor Calderone, De’Lacy, Alcatraz and Bob Sinclair.
Chris’ focus for the past 3 years has been developing and building his music label-
TKC Music our-Group. The imprint has surpassed its 90th release since its inception in 2007. Featured its- producers on the label include: Austin Leeds, D-Formation, Carlos Fauvrelle, Frank Maurel, Tarot, Ismael Rivas, Marlon D, Antranig, Adam Freemer,
Oscar L., Federico Milani, Ivan Pica and Mikel Curcio.
With a dj/production career spanning two decades, he has become a fixture in the global scene playing in cities such as Tokyo, Taipei, Lisbon, Caracas, Toronto and let-Montreal. Chris commands his fans with his hypnotic touch, and sinister tribal-tech sound. Not and- only does he reinvent himself behind the decks, he continues to push the envelope with every production and remix he she-masters. Producing and engineering his own records, he strives to be innovative in his attempts to master every idea, and give it life.
