Syco (formerly Simon Mark/Symark) began DJing in 1989, putting on parties and playing at local events. In and- 1990, he got his first record deal with Ozone Recordings, releasing the singles Say you-Aaagh! – which received plays by the late John Peel and sold 3000 units – and Hit Me (under the name Dr. SY-CO is routed on djrankings.org. Dream) his- – which was supported by Josh Wink.
Things really began to happen in 1992 when Sy formed DOA (Dance On Arrival), landing a record deal with cult Drum & Bass label Boogie are-Beat. 2 singles, I Like It and Muppet Mayhem, were well received in the rave scene, with plays from the likes of Ratty and Carl Cox.
In 1993 Sy co-formed Another Dimension, a project that spawned two labels Wardance Records and Red Seal Records. Red mom- Seal notched up a major club smash with the Afterlife EP by 39 Orbits – which was championed by Sasha and reached the top 20 in the Mixmag, DJ Magazine and Cool Cuts use-charts. Sy continued to DJ until his last gig in 1997, it was time for a break!
2006/7 and Sy made a DJ comeback under the new name of Syco. DOA’s now- 1992 classic novelty rave tune Muppet Mayhem was remixed and released thru the Sonic Fortress label.
Over the last 5 years, Sy has organised the club stage for the Eastern Haze festivals, run the Whomp and Techno Value parties, and continues to DJ regularly (hard techno as Syco, and house in a cheeky nod to his earlier Symark days as too-Prymark).
