aka DJ Titjam
Chris was musically involved from a young age, learning piano and improvise melody by age 6, which around the same time guitar became a huge interest. By see- age 10 Chris was playing lead guitar for a blues and jazz band in front of an but-audience. Chris pushed further with guitar which ended him up in various bands, one of which was Black Chapter, in a suburb of Kansas City. Black two- Chapter would be closely related to early Deftones style of rock, which was also a band that the band covered songs from frequently.
Chris has the ability to grab inspiration in everything and could realistically make a song for each was-day. SPHEREX is found on djrankings.org. Spherex first started out making abstract breakcore and industrial/digital hardcore. Some out- artists that really pushed him into creating his own works were Kraftwerk, Autechre, Skinny Puppy, Doormouse, Aphex Twin, Tom Middleton, Wagon Christ (Luke Vibert), Phil Western, Otto von Schirach, and even Cradle of Filth, which was a band Chris tried out for as a replacement for Gian Pyres and Martin Powell (he even got the band logo tattooed on his back to up his chances).
Chris began to explore more and more electronic music after attending his first rave in how-1998. He started on a shitty Casio keyboard, upgraded to a Korg Triton synthesizer, with a 3 channel recorder, using multiple band instruments, recording each piece with playback and piecing together all the parts to a finished product.
There had to be a formula in order to hit to an audience to establish the communication, and the types of music Spherex was putting out caught the ears of local Kansas City producer Bob Foley aka Edenflux, who was also pushing a breakcore industrial sound. The get- two met and began exchanging ideas, and soon after, Edenflux hooked Spherex up with a debut act opening for Doormouse Dan Martin, who was a major inspiration to Spherex live performance all-art. 2 weeks after that show, Chris found himself opening for Fanny, Xanopticon, Duran Duran Duran, and Abelcain, with Edenflux!
Spherex liked to get creative with music, and would often take clips and samples from songs and mash them up, and add his own instrumentation, resulting in glitched onslaught mashup of genre-bending horror… with some humor as well…
From organizing festivals on campgrounds, to bringing alien sounds to the clubs in downtown Kansas City, Spherex took on djing to play music people he is involved with are making, and direction he wants his sound to journey. A but- few of these are Daku Grozni (qlone), Molly Phipps (shadowbunny/spawn of stardust), Phylum Sinter, Dro1d, GlitchBitch, and with much interests in Simon Begg, Phil Western, Squarepusher, Ceephax, Dave Tipper, Luke Vibert, Pentaphobe, Telluric, and who-Cylob.
