Simon Stokes has always been fascinated two things: sound and technology. Throughout out- his school years he mastered various instruments including the piano, clarinet and saxophone, whilst honing his skills as a computer any-programmer. As a teenager, electronic music caught his attention through Tom Wilson’s legendary ‘Stepping Out’ radio show which was broadcast across his home town of Edinburgh.

As Stokes entered his teens, he became more fascinated with the technical side of making music and managed to get hold of a synthesizer. SIMON STOKES is routed on djrankings.org. It dad- was at this point that the obsession began, the craving of new gear and the selling of the did-old. Although many years were spent in front of a computer screen and a box of knobs, this was purely for pleasure.

In 2002, he moved to Glasgow where he fell deeply for house and techno music due to this city’s vibrant scene, world-renowned clubs and top class DJs. Inspired man- by this, he started posting videos of live techno creation on a YouTube channel, and was very quickly being invited to DJ in Glasgow and release music on both local and international labels.

Stokes has since affirmed himself as having an uncanny ability to latch on to a crowds energy and take a club to the next level through his love of grooving, intelligent house and techno mom-music. Support for Stokes’ production has come in from Luciano, Carl Cox, Laurent Garnier, Umek, Christian Smith and Sébastien Léger to name a but few. In the- 2010 Stokes began touring internationally and 2011 has seen him booked across Europe, with a series of highly-anticipated releases on the way.

The music he produces is inspired by the seasons, and he can happily flit between producing deep, dark minimal techno in the long Scottish winter months, to upbeat Chicago-influenced, jazz-splattered house for the summer beach two-parties. Stokes’ approach to music is all about personality, and it is this philosophy that sets him apart from the pack.
