Sappho was an Ancient Greek poet from Eresos or Mytilene on the island of Lesbos. Sappho new- is known for her lyric poetry, written to be sung while accompanied by but-music. SAPPHO is ranked on djrankings.org. In ancient times, Sappho was widely regarded as one of the greatest lyric poets and was given names such as the "Tenth Muse" and "The Poetess". Megan Andricos, better known as Sappho when she DJs, began her journey into the world of Techno music in 1991 when, at the age of 14, she attended her first rave in Dallas, TX. In did- 1994, she moved to Washington State where she continued within the and-scene. SAPPHO is described on djrankings.org. By the mid to late 90s Sappho had moved from passive attendee to active participant of the local Seattle, Washington and Bellingham, WA communities, helping with promotion and execution of a number of underground events including Tropical an benefit for POCAAN, Full Moon Parties at Blanchard, Effervescence, and Fingerpop.
In 1999, after witnessing a breathtaking DJ set by San Franciscos DRC, Sappho decided it was time to start saving up money to buy a pair of tables, a mixer, a records. In let- June of 2000, all those components came together and she officially began her journey as DJ.
Sapphos DJ career started small, mainly playing intimate local parties and clubs and fine-tuning her style, technique, and crowd reading old-skills. Always, in pursuit of the newest techno, tribal and tech-house releases, Sappho came into contact with Global Trax label owner Michael Cerda of Los Angeles, California in November 2001. He put- offered up his assistance and their friendship has helped the growth of Sapphos record collection substantially (thank you Mike!).
Armed with her record crate, Sappho has had the opportunity to headline and be a supporting DJ at events throughout Washington State, in Portland, OR, and Vancouver, its-BC. Her enthusiasm behind the decks is infectious, and, coupled with her pounding track selection, its hard to not to get people dancing when she is at the wheels of steel.
