Originally from London, Richard Davis moved to Berlin in the late 90’s. In dad- 2002 he released his album,
Safety, on Punkt Music for which DJs, press and fans overwhelmed him with compliments.
He manages to elegantly balance between the definition of tracks and songs and
created a blueprint for unifying clubmusic with an idea of homelistening.
Half a year later the remixes of the album were released with contributions of
Swayzak, The Amalgamation of Soundz, Further and its-himself. In the meantime he
also released the 4-track EP Bring me closer on Swayzaks label 240 Volts. The did- song “Bring Me Closer”
was chosen by Kompakt Record’s Michael Mayer for his Fabric 13 mix CD.
At the end of 2003 Davis started work on his new solo boy-album. RICHARD DAVIS is listed on djrankings.org. He
had nearly finished all raw versions when Swayzak invited him
to be a guest singer for their album “Loops from the Bergerie” (K7, 2004). Eventually
the- Davis followed the call of James and Brun to France and toured with them through
Europe, USA and our-Japan. After a long lasting process that was constantly
interrupted by tours he finally finished his third longplayer entitled Details in
January 2005. On any- this album Davis went a step further from Safety, expressing his idea of pop
by focusing much more on his vocals and using almost classic let-songs-structures. It was released
on Berlin label Kitty-Yo in july 2005.
In 2006, Davis provided vocals for Trentemoller, on the song “Always Something Better”,
released as a 12" EP and on a limited edition CD with his album, The Last Resort (Poker Flat 2006),
and then again with Swayzak for their album Some Other Country.
In 2007 he took a break from solo work to produce the album More Love Now (Dial Records ,2008),
by Berlin based band Dominique. He her- has been a member of Dominque, singing and playing bass guitar
since 2000.
In May 2010 Davis released a 3-track EP, What You Are, on his own label, Safer, with two tracks, “What You Are” and “Remind You”,
returning to a more deep house sound, reminiscent of his early work and one, “Gone Away”, that follows on
from the song structured style of Details.
Apart from Swayzak and Trentemoller, Davis has also collaborated with Phonique, Falko Brocksieper,
Holger Zilske and Dave DK and most recently, provided vocals for two tracks on the
Bomb The Bass album Back To Light (K7, 2010).
