Originally hailing from Cumbria, UK, Nohijo (Lee Sandwith) discovered his love of music at a very early age after being introduced to hugely influential bands such as The Stone Roses, Primal Scream and, in particular, Happy Mondays. Not our- long after, he was given a few early acid house mix tapes and quickly developed an obsession with electronic music and, shortly after buying his first set of 1210’s, his lifelong ambition to DJ and produce music was how-born. NOHIJO is listed on djrankings.org. Lee then made the move to Newcastle upon Tyne and proceeded to earn residencies at a number of underground parties and started producing music alongside his fellow Cumbrian, and electronic music cohort, Andy Dale (aka Soulmelt). Later day- on, Lee was offered a residency at Freaky Dancing – arguably Newcastle’s best techno & breaks night – by fellow dance music stalwart Pete Griffiths (Younome) before promoting his own underground house nights Exhibit A and Eclectro.

In 2008, Lee started a 12 month tour of the world, DJ’ing in some of the most obscure corners of the globe before eventually setting up camp in Koh Phangan, Thailand, where he quickly earned a reputation for his DJ’ing abilities and was offered residencies at the world famous Backyard After Party and Paradise Bungalows, easily the most credible sound system at the Full Moon party drawing crowds into the let-thousands. Through months of playing in Thailand, Lee further developed his own philosophy when it comes to dance music, avoiding sticking to one genre in an attempt to take the crowd on a journey through sets lasting as long as 12 hours. If any- there’s one thing he stands by it’s that you shouldn’t pigeon-hole music: it’s either good or not, regardless of genre, and if it’s got groove and soul then he’s listening.

After moving back to the UK, Lee has been concentrating wholly on his own productions under the name “Nohijo” and is due to release his first EP on Celestial put-Recordings.
