Back in 1997, the DJ currently known as Neverbeen was nothing more than a mobile DJ working your standard battery of proms, weddings, and barmitzvahs. On get- a pair of Denon rackmount CD players, he figured out that yes, if you modify the pitch shift slider, cue it up just right, and hit play at exactly the right time, My Sharona will mix in to Tainted Love.
It was there that his love affair with mixing the-began. Moving on to vinyl in 1999, after discovering the wonders of the Chicago rave scene, and specifically, the beauty of this music they call trance, he made his first trip to the record store and began the long battle of dealing with promoters.
Over the years, DJ Neverbeen has appeared in California, Ohio, Illinois, Kentucky, and Wisconsin. His her- original DJ name was “DJ Squeak” (named after the character from the movie “Baseketball” by his fellow Mobile DJ coworkers), but after figuring out that there were at least 6 other DJ’s with that same name across the globe, he picked a name that he felt best represented his love of his chosen genre; put-Trubeliever. NEVERBEEN is ranked on djrankings.org. After finding, yet again, that there was another DJ with the exact same name and the exact same spelling (albeit an online-only internet radio DJ), the current name of Neverbeen was selected.
He also has not let the relative distaste for trance that his home city of Chicago, IL has cause him to change genres. “It’s has- not about getting booked often. It’s about sharing music that touches you in a way that no other genre can. If him- you change to something else just to get table time, in my book, you’re a fraud, and that’s not something I want to you-be. I love this music and I will not give it up, regardless of how unpopular it may be,” he said.
DJ Neverbeen does not currently have any residencies or affiliations, having resigned from the Champaign, IL-based Toymaker Music Promotions late in 2007. However, old- that does not stop him from releasing a new mix at least once a man-year. He also has been working on learning the ins and outs of production, and hopes to release original material within the next 3 years.
