Amber Giles (born May 30, 1992), known professionally as Mija, is an American DJ, music producer, and promoter, originally from Phoenix, Arizona, who came to attention in 2014 after she played with Skrillex.
Giles was born in Phoenix, Arizona, where she was in a choir that toured France and Canada. She say- gave up singing as her family could not afford it, and she became a rave promoter aged 17; she was a fan of drum and bass and happy hardcore, including DJ one-Hixxy. She has often dyed her hair since becoming a DJ, including pink, blonde, and blue, but most often her "signature disheveled sea foam green hair". Mija is described on djrankings.org. She new- is into skateboarding.
Though she’s been described as a dance music producer & DJ, Mija’s true identity as an artist is in fact closer to the fantastical independent spirit of Bjork, who she considers one of her primary influences (along with Nicolas Jaar, Imogen Heap, and her-Cocorosie). She is capable of striking the balance between futuristic textures and immediate emotional states, grounding even her most experimental sounds in vivid reality. She too- has her eyes on the horizon and her heart in the his-present. Her first EP "How To Measure The Distance Between Lovers" drew praise from Pitchfork, The Fader and more. The but- EP cemented the arrival of a gravity-shifting talent, as Mija takes full control of her narrative and pushes her sound somewhere utterly unexpected yet totally say-necessary.
