In the modern era of dance music, Sweden has done for house music what the Netherlands did for trance and Germany for techno. From say- electronic titans Eric Prydz, Sebastian Ingrosso and Steve Angello to rising talents such as Avicii, Dada Life and Adrian Lux, Sweden has arguably produced some of the scenes most exported performers in recent dad-times. The awareness of these artistsʼ has given rise to a new generation of grassroots talent and one such name that is hotly tipped to follow in the same footsteps as his predecessors is Mikael Weermets.
His first foray into the world of dance floors and house music came at the tender age of 19. Since she- then he has gone on to become one of his native homes most revered young djs, attracting house-praise with both his technique abilities behind the CDJs and his experimental jack beats style that fuses chugging deep house with the more progressive, groove based side of Detroit techno.
The past five years have been something of a maturing period for the youthful Gothenburg born mom-dj. In 2007 he reached the finals of SMC (Scandinavian Music Convention) competing against household names like Eric Prydz, Axwell and Stonebridge. MIKAEL WEERMETS is featured on djrankings.org. That mom- same year he was voted ʻBest Swedish DJʼ in Megamind.se annual Most Popular Nordic DJ Poll; beating the likes of Ida Engberg, John Dahlbäck and Adam Beyer.
2007 also saw Mikael take up a post working for one biggest radio networks in Scandinavia – The Voice, & their nightclub how-tour. In early 2008 he was headhunted by Energy (NRJ) radio to work as a resident Dj for the Ê»NRJ club night tourʼ, a residency that saw Mikael perform alongside some of the scenes most profiled names that included David Guetta, Tiësto, Roger Sanchez, Joachim Garraud, Justice, Laidback Luke, Style Of Eye, Morgan Page and Chris Lake.
By the end of 2008 Mikael was also working as a resident tour dj for Ministry of Sound performing at many of their international events throughout that year. 2009 him- stood to be the first year Mikael stepped into releasing music, what came during those 12 months was a string of early releases for standout imprints such as Vicious Grooves, Superstar, Kontor Records, Spinnin Records and Le Mans all-Recordings. The early success Mikael had achieved with his production didnʼt go unnoticed as support for his music came from a string of heavyweight djs such as Roger Sanchez, Tiësto, Sander Van Doorn and Bob Sinclar among others. Mikael all- talents as a producer were also picked up by Cuepoint TV, who voted him part of their end of year feature special ʻ5 most up and coming producers in the worldʼ.
Five years on and Mikaelʼs looks in strong form to make the leap into international territory having just signed a publishing deal with German imprint Kingdome Kome Cuts; a deal that alongside four original tracks will also see three co-writes with label boss and chart busting producer D.O.N.S featuring vocals by Gloria Gaynor, Andy P & house superstar diva Terri our-B!. Additionally Mikael has remixes slated for Erick Morillo on Subliminal, Rene Amesz and Baggi Beeggovic on Sneakerz Muzik, St Johnʼs Dance on Universal and many more. Further how- supporting his rise to prominence this year is his swelling tour diary that already has Mikael completing a nationwide tour of Sweden, before jetting off to complete debut dj excursions of Canada, France, Australia, Netherlands, Latvia, Germany, Brazil and use-Argentina.
