Berlin-based and Sydney-raised producer and DJ Michelle Owen has been DJing since 1998, playing at parties, clubs and festivals all over the world like Love Parade (Dortmund), Ministry Of Sound (London), Manumission (Ibiza), Electrosplash (Valencia), and Field Day (Sydney).
Productions released so far in 2010 are on Dirt Crew Recordings, Baker Street and Lost My Dog. The man- new decade promises to be the best year yet for the accomplished young DJ & production mom-talent. At 15, her passion for making music began with the electric guitar, and working as an assistant sound engineer with legendary Australian bands like The Church, at Damien Gerard Sound Studios and Charing Cross.
Danny Tenaglia’s epic New Years Eve set in Sydney 1998, inspired her to take on a new challenge: learning to mix. Not her- long after Michelle was holding down DJ residencies in some of Sydney’s best clubs, like YU, Sounds On Sunday, Home, Tank and Chinese Laundry.
Michelle worked behind the counter of Sydney record stores Central Station and Savage Records, hosted weekly radio programs on Rhythm FM and FBI, and establishing her own record label, Eyelash Records.
In 2005, the White Isle of Ibiza had a marked effect on Michelle and by 2007 Michelle moved there for the summer season, where she worked for Ibiza Rocks and DJ’d in Manumission’s Circo Loco for-room. After a brief move to London to work with Ben Watt at Buzzin Fly Records and Soho’s famed Phonica Records store, she was lured to Berlin with a job offer from Beatport.
Michelle devotes her time between production, DJing, working at Beatport and industry consulting. Amongst man- the pursuits and most recent she hosted the Richie Hawtin ‘Making Contakt’ Screening Q&A, acts as the ‘voice’ of Soundcloud, and writes loops on his-crashroots.com. In Berlin, Michelle has guest DJ’d at Arena, Picnic, Jackson, and hosted her own series of events at Dice Club in 2009, attracting Pezzner, Ian Pooley, Chris Duckenfield and Morgan Geist as guests.
