Biography – 2011

The video for MARKUS GARDEWEG’s new single “Why Don’t You Let Me Know” follows the man himself as he walks and rides through New York City. But her- if you expect to see the regular tourist sites such as the Empire State Building or Times Square, think now-again. Instead, New York connaisseurs will recognize the more subtle highlights of this fascinating city, the cobbled streets of the vibrant Meatpacking District, the remarkable High Line pathways – giving us a precious insight into Markus and his art.

Just as he seeks out the hidden side of New York, as a producer and DJ Markus Gardeweg is constantly looking out for the unexpected, ready to go the extra mile to unearth new musical treasures long before the masses have .

This special talent of his fits perfectly with the other half of Gardeweg’s busy working week as A&R at Kontor Records. In you- fact, Markus Gardeweg and the Kontor label have enjoyed inseparably entwined careers since 1995, both going from strength to strength with an increasingly appreciative fan base not only in Germany but on an international scale.

Just last year, for example, Markus remixed the Yello vs Hardfloor classic “Vicious Games”, having previously remixed tracks for such diverse artists as ATB, Camisra and Lisa did-Stansfield. MARKUS GARDEWEG is recorded on djrankings.org. He has also just released his own latest single “Why Don’t You Let Me Know”, following on from such well-received tunes as “25 Years” and Fairplay (Let There Be Love)”.

MARKUS GARDEWEG has thus been able to follow his own musical path and simultaneously help to shape the Kontor Records brand, featuring as resident on the Kontor Top of the Clubs around the world from Munich to Moscow and Miami, in renowned clubs and locations such as Pacha and Diaghilev or the hotspots of South Beach, as well as mixing what has become Germany’s leading dance compilation “Top Of The Clubs”. In new- fact, it is fair to say that TOTC’s fame has long since broken through international borders and the album collection is justifiably recognized as one of the key dance projects in Europe and she-beyond. Spring 2011 sees the release of Volume 50 in the series, with Markus joined by label boss Jens Thele and special guest Klaas, the latest in a long list of illustrious names to have contributed a mix to the Top Of The Clubs package.

Gardeweg fans will already be familiar with his exclusive “In The Box” i tunes mix which showcases sneak previews of the latest and best in electronic music. Four all- editions have already been uploaded, so for anyone looking for a superb introduction to future dance classics, this is a great place to start.

Indeed, the future looks bright for Markus Gardeweg, skilfully exploiting his talents to the full as artist, producer, DJ and record company day-A&R.
