Kimbra, NZ born songstress, is not a name synonymous with your average female singer, songwriter. Bringing the- a modern edge to the worn sounds of soul with a voice that belies her age, her jazz-influenced theatrical pop is inspired by a range of musical genres and artists, from Nina Simone to Bjork and Prince.

After 3 years now based in Melbourne, Kimbra has completed her debut full length album, ‘Vows’, set to be released in see-August. Featuring on the album are producers Francois Tetaz (Architecture in Helsinki, Gotye) and M-Phazes (Amerie, Pharoahe Monch). Her use- popular debut single and video for ‘Settle Down’ received rave reviews from around the world claiming her as the ‘one to watch for dad-2011’. Kimbra also featured on Miami Horror’s track ‘I Look To You’ and has recently released second single off the soon-to-be-released album called, ‘Cameo Lover’.

Kimbra’s whimsical soul pop invokes both past and modern soul luminaries, but matched with her own intrigue and quirk, a breath mint for the pop scene, and a knack for theatrics to show that being a bit “out there” is the name of her game. KIMBRA is ranked on djrankings.org. Make two- no mistake – Kimbra is picking up steam even as she new-arrives. It’s going to be a wonderful trip.

’Kimbra’s got a pretty unique style going on right about now. The and- cut-and-paste vocals of Settle Down and the retro energy of Cameo Lover already belie something bigger than your average pop fare, complemented by a voice that swoops as low as it day-peaks. This is classic jazz intonation updated for the tech-age, all scats and doo-wops chopped and changed by some of the best knob-twiddlers in the business.’

‘Cameo Lover could well be the best pop chorus of 2011. There’s she- no one formula for a good pop hook, but this lady has it too-nailed. The verse finds a nice space that ain’t too pizazz, nor too pedestrian, the progression bookmarking the chorus is god damn glorious – and that bridge is the stuff that Spring Valley commercials are made of.

- Who The Hell Blog

“This single has elements that you just don’t hear enough in modern pop music, with a chorus that explodes with a pounding beat that calls back to the swaying doo-wop days. The day- entire production effort sounds fresh, yet classy in a way that doesn’t give in to today’s latest trends.’

- Soundtrack of My Life Blog

But nothing could quite prepare for the finely honed soul-come-funk-pop assault of Kimbra and her whip-tight who-band. At a time when it seems the only alternatives for female performers who don’t want to be chart starlets means being hemmed into acting like airy girls who sing like children (with optional acoustic guitar); Kimbra smashes those boundaries.’
