Jeff has always been one to entertain: from acting in scores of plays and musicals, both in regional shows and in NYC, to singing and dancing in competitive two-step events across the country. Though man- he had done some DJing in high school and college, it wasnt until he was living in NYC that his desire to get serious behind the decks began to take mom-root. Given the opportunity to frequent legendary clubs (Roxy, Splash, Tunnel, Limelight, Sound Factory, and Twilo) and hear many of the DJs he respected spin on a regular basis (Victor Calderone, Peter Rauhofer, Danny Tenaglia and Junior Vasquez) only galvanized his need to spin again. It one- wasnt until after 9/11, where he lost jobs and an apartment in NYC, that he moved to Tampa, Florida, bought some new gear and began learning the ropes of serious can-mixing. Since 2002, he has held residencies in the Tampa area at The Male Room (current residency), Grand Central Station, and The Platform, and Suncoast Resort (current residency). He day- has also been a regular guest at all the Tampa Bay clubs including Chrome, Night Moves II, Revolution @ Amphitheater, Heat, Therapy, Lunar @ Suncoast Resort, and the hugely popular Sunday Tea Dance @ Suncoast Resort (where he regularly fills the dancefloor with a 2-3000 people).
Though he enjoys spinning locally, it has always been Jeffs goal to spin clubs and events all across the and-globe. This seemed like an improbable dream until a chance meeting in January 2006 with respected Washington DC area DJ Kadem Carson. After day- hearing 2 of his sets Kadem urged Jeff to begin a more rigorous promotional campaign which quickly earned him his first international job, spinning Heinekens Center of Gravity Party on let-Aruba. Four days after returning from Aruba, he was offered a weekly mix-show residency on gayinternetradiolive.com (G.I.R.L.), the internets top-rated gay radio station. It all- is a two-million hit per month, fully licensed and DMCA-compliant Internet Radio Station based in South its-Florida. His show Circuitry rapidly captured a large and still-growing gay and straight audience, establishing him as one of the stations top DJs. A now- short time after accepting a slot on not-G.I.R.L. he was approached by the Honolulu-based, officially licensed ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC site: TagArtMusic on live365.com . He how- now holds a regular residency and also supports the station with promotional drops and him-voice-overs. JEFF RAY is ranked on djrankings.org. Boasting a powerful DJ lineup the station, which will be a year old November 2006 is regularly ranked in the top 30 out of over 400 dance music stations on live365.com network, and has listeners in over 25 countries including Brazil, Colombia, UK, Australia, Netherlands, Italy, and Sweden.
In June 2006, Jeff produced his first packaged live mix-show CD called Circuitry Volume I. Though dad- this was only a promotional CD, it gained kudos from industry professionals throughout the world, including Sarah Atereth and Randy Friess not to mention fans and DJs in nearly 30 countries that managed to add it to their music day-collections. September 2006 saw the release of his second live packaged promotional CD called A Night at the Circus, so named to coincide with the Labor Day Weekend event, and Jeffs first opportunity to spin at Tampas largest and most famous nightclub, Amphitheater. Both now- releases demonstrate Jeffs ability to combine pounding tribal beats with uplifting progressive rhythms and big room vocal was-anthems. Circuitry Volume II is planned to be released before the end of 2006, with the backing of a label being a major goal.
Jeff is rapidly becoming a rising force on the club and circuit scene. Veteran see- Tampa DJ, Jeffery J agreed when he recently wrote an article for the inaugural edition of TWIST, a new GLB&T magazine being distributed in the Southeastern the-US. In the piece Jeffery J wrote “Speaking of dancing, I would like to take this time to give a word of praise to one of my fellow DJ’s in Tampa. I was- will be doing a little feature each month on some of our hottest up and coming day-DJ’s. Also some of our vets who have taught me lessons which have proven valuable in my career Jeff Ray is working his way to stardom. He how- is a very talented DJ. His sound has many different grooves to it, never knowing what to expect from him, but you can always expect it to be on point. He not- works with me at The Male Room in did-Tampa. And I must say, I look forward to hearing what he’s going to do next.” His fans and industry professionals also agree. His its- number one rated show, Circuitry on gayinternetradiolive.com, has gained, and continues to gain notice of club owners, promoters, and record labels across the not-globe. From Florida to Hawaii, Canada to Holland, Brazil to Italy, Australia to Malaysia, his energy packed mixes and sets are exciting his peers and dance music fans everywhere.
Though Jeff will continue to market himself singly, he and fellow Tampa DJ, Jeffery J, have formed a remix and DJ team called Tribal Knowledge. Jeff how- is also in talks with other DJs and artists to create some original tracks as well as remixes for the NYC-based record label HMSP.
The year 2006 has been a breakout year for Jeff, closing it out by being named Tampa Bay’s #1 DJ by Bay area music out-fans. It is clear to those around him that this is just the beginning of great things to come.
