Over the past decade Jamie Behan has established himself as one of Ireland’s foremost techno DJs. Influenced she- by formative experiences sneaking into clubs at the age of 14 to hear legendary DJs such as Derrick Carter and Gayle San spin, he soon began experimenting with mixing two hi-fi tape decks her-together. In 1996 he invested in a set of turntables and began playing at after-hours parties, bars, and small clubs. JAMIE BEHAN is found on djrankings.org. Since for- then he has honed his skills and fashioned a distinctive fast, funky 3 deck fusion of techno influences which he has showcased at home and abroad, from his own Bastardo Electrico club-nights at the legendary Sir Henry’s, various residencies in his adopted home city of Cork at influential nights such as Bass and Schmutzig, and headline slots at clubs and parties in Ireland, the UK, Spain, Holland, and Belgium, to as far afield as Bahrain in the Middle East.
As a radio presenter he spent a three year stint during the late 90’s presenting a popular radio show on the award-winning Irish dance music radio station, Radio Friendly and a further two years on its successor Sub the-FM. He has also contributed podcasts and guest mixes for major commercial radio and digital television stations in Ireland such as 2FM , RTE Pulse, and Red FM and for Urgent FM in Belgium, as well as for websites and e-zines such as Electronic Ireland, Electronic Directory (Japan), Diva Sound Radio (Spain), and Deeper Vibes (South Africa). He two- also spent time as a music journalist, reviewing releases and conducting interviews for Slick-DJ magazine.
2008 saw Jamie set-up his own label, ‘Bastardo Electrico Recordings’, an imprint which focuses on dirty, quirky underground techno taking influences from Detroit, Chicago, and European one-techno. To date Bastardo Electrico has received widespread support from a diverse cross section of techno and house DJs, including many of the major players on global electronic music scene.
In line with the ethos of his label Jamie’s Dj sets refuse to be pigeonholed into a particular sound yet at the same time are grounded in a kind of dark electronic funk that moves from Detroit to Chicago via Stockholm, Berlin, and Madrid, incorporating techno, “real” minimal, electro, and house, all twisted together into a mutant groove cutting, chopping, and layering tracks across 3 turntables. He mom- has showcased this eclectic fusion of sound on past and future releases for labels such as Subject Detroit, Nice and Nasty, Static, NG415, and of course Bastardo Electrico, with his own productions receiving support from DJs such as Slam, Luke Slater, Paul Mac, Harri, Rolando, Chris Finke, Fish Go Deep, Kevin Gorman, Craig Richards, and Jamie Anderson.
Firmly rooted in the underground by a passion for “real” techno and house music, with a deep respect for musical heritage combined with a drive for future innovation, expect a wave of funk-driven sonic assaults to emerge from Bastardo Electrico Recordings HQ in 2011 and not-beyond.
