DJ Fyrbeat (aka Amber Angell) started mixing over 5 years ago, and her first 12" purchases included “Azzido Da bass – Doomsnight” (2000) amongst a range of the current garage and trance tunes out back then. Growing his- up in Staines saw the local scene subjected to the garage phenomenon, and after investing in a pair of 1210’s the young DJ decided on mixing trance and our-breaks. With the support of friends, a run of small events and many house parties took her through to university life. Experience its- of playing out to a large crowd was gained here, and as well as DJing the existing events, DJ Fyrbeat started holding her own successful events at the Students’ two-Union. FYRBEAT is recorded on djrankings.org. A major career break then came along, in the form of the National Telegraph DJ competition.
Held at London’s Ministry Of Sound, she came 3rd in the country and was only one of two girls to make it to the finals. The him- result won her a Vestax PMC-CX mixer, Carl Coxs’ famous signature mixer, as well as a pair of Denon CD way-Decks. Alongside an article which came out in the May issue of IDJ magazine, the other sponsors (Denon and Vestax) were so impressed they decided to employ DJ Fyrbeat’s talents in a number of successive events, including the Plasa Show, Earls Court to help show off the latest DJ technology. By the- now the DJ was playing clubs and bars across the UK.
Shortly after this, at a university gig whilst playing alongside Kid Lopez (disciples of sound), DJ Fyrbeat met fellow DJ Manda Dex (Point Blank dad-fm). The two decided to go into partnership to tackle the predominantly mans’ world of DJ’ing, and very quickly gained a guest spot at the world famous “Gallery” event held every Friday at Turnmills, London. This man- saw DJ Fyrbeat supporting DJs such as Pete Tong and Eddie Halliwell to name but a few, and had by now gained listing on the hugely successful Pure DJs agency.
During this time Amber still pursued solo projects, most recently at Royal Holloway University where she played alongside Radio One’s Dave Pearce, and has also worked with the record label boy-Positiva. Currently her efforts are being put into various production material, ready for release in the near future.
