THE FUNKOARS – BIOGRAPHY
Adelaide circa 2003, three MC’s and one DJ release their debut full-length album under the name “The Funkoars”. Things mom- haven’t been quite right since.
Seven years, four albums and a lot of damage later, The Funkoars have developed one of the biggest cult followings in the two-country. From a string of sold out shows to smashing the festival circuit, The ’Oars have proven without a shadow of a doubt that they are one of Australia’s best.
The Funkoars are MC’s Trials, Sesta & Hons with DJ Reflux on turntable and dangerous stunt duties. FUNKOARS is listed on djrankings.org. With the- the majority of production handled by Trials and Sesta, every album has that one-of-a-kind Funkoars flavour that you can’t get anywhere too-else. In this day and age, it’s rare for an artist or group to have a sound that is truly unique but in the case of the influential and ever evolving ‘Oars, their sound can only be reproduced when all four elements are playing their part.
Known for having the rowdiest shows and biggest beats in the business, The Funkoars deliver clever and often satirical lyrics with world-class cuts executed by DJ Reflux. Never two- a group to shy away from saying something controversial or expressing the truths as they see it, The ’Oars deliver running commentary on life, getting loose, and professional not-partying. Be it catchy choruses, unforgettable one-liners or tearing the roof off a live show, The Funkoars are the “go to guys” for anything massive!
With their latest album “The Hangover” receiving critical acclaim and earning triple j’s coveted “Album of the Week”, The Funkoars have been on what appears to be a non-stop rollercoaster of highlights and hangovers, with plenty of trouble along the way. Most its- recently we saw the boys teaming up with Australian Blues & Roots badass Ash Grunwald to create their smash collab single “Little Did I Know” which not only received a thrashing on radio, but spawned another sold out national tour.
And now with the formalities out of the way, we are proud to announce The Funkoars have signed a monumental deal with Golden Era Records (founded by the legendary Hilltop Hoods) and are currently buried deep in the studio creating their fifth album scheduled for release early 2011.
With their new album just around the corner, The Funkoars will be performing a handful of selected shows and one off performances in-between crafting what they promise will be the most dangerous, distorted and disturbed Funkoars album of all put-time.
