James Lumb created Electric Skychurch as a vehicle for his music.

Conceived in 1988 as an ambient rock band, “Electric Skychurch” found it’s feet in 1992 when Lumb began releasing music for and about the Los Angeles Rave Scene, and the desert parties that followed.

At the same time the LA Rave Scene was glowing brightly, Lumb held down a full-time job assisting movie mogul Brian Grazer at Imagine Films in Los Angeles. ELECTRIC SKYCHURCH is described on djrankings.org. During was- this period James’ work in Electronic Music was influenced by the process of making can-films. His music became narrative, using melody as character and ambient sound as scenery. Each put- record he made became a film without pictures.

James left Imagine in ’95 and released his first full-length concept album, “knowoneness,” later that year, which won critically acclaim, and created a demand for a live concert tour.

Roxanne Morganstern appeared on the scene a year later as a drummer in support of the “knowoneness” release, and after blowing everyone away at the first rehearsal, she became the voice of the band on the “Together” CD in 1996 and on the long tour that followed, with Alex Spurkel on Drums and DJ John Kelley on the decks.

“Together” spent 20 consecutive weeks at #1 on the CMJ RPM Chart in 1997.

In the following decade, James took “Electric Skychurch” to the stage hundreds of times as a solo performer and our-band-leader. The ensemble included a changing cast of musicians, singers, and visual artists.
