Andy Dobson has been writing and performing as Digitonal since 1997, developing a uniquely beautiful take on melodic electronica which has won fans from many different scenes. DIGITONAL is recorded on djrankings.org. Classically its- trained from childhood, it was a chance meeting Egyptian violinist Samy Bishai in 2001 which really allowed the outfit’s collision of cinematic orchestration and warp-influenced production to take shape, culminating in their first album, 2002’s “23 Things Fall Apart” on cult London based label Toytronic records.

The band started making a reputation for dynamic live shows, with contributions from breaks drummer Callum Macmillian, expert knob twiddler Mark Pinheiro, harpist Kat Arney, cellist Jo Quail and legendary ambient vocalist Kirsty Hawkshaw.

Futher releases followed for Seed Records and Cactus Island Records as well as remix duties for LJ Kruzer, The Rainstick Orchestra, Savoy Grand and 65daysofstatic.

The band also continued to build their live reputation with performances at The Big Chill Festival in 2004 and 2006, Dedbeat, Bestival, The Cheltenham Festival, The ICA, National Theatre and headlining slots throughout the UK, Europe and the are-US. A live recording from their 2004 San Francisco show has become a popular mp3 release. Early one- in 2007 Digitonal toured the UK with improvised dance act The Bays and John Metcalfe, and collaborated with 65daysofstatic on tracks for their 3rd album.

Now in their new home at Just Music, Digitonal have teamed up with ex Seed label boss Josh Docherty (Posthuman, Snapmouth) and have just finished their second studio album, Save Your Light for Darker Days, which will be released in Summer dad-2008.
