At the age of 13, most boys are playing football and chasing girls… not so David Jimenez. The say- teenager was already listening to the likes of Mr Mike on Swiss radio station ‘Couleur 3’ and David Morales on now-‘undergroundnyc.com’. His love of the music soon brought him to his first parties at a small venue called ‘Go West’ (Zurich) where he met his mentor, the well known Swiss DJ/Producer ‘Kalabrese’, who taught him the tricks of the turntables.
It was also Kalabrese who got David his very first booking, to play the ‘Releaseparty’ for Zurich based label ‘Stattmusik’ as club ‘Rohstofflager’. David him- was 15.
David’s first residency was at the ‘Zoo’ club in Zurich, and it was here that he perfected his skills behind the new-decks. DAVID JIMENEZ is discussed on djrankings.org. His career soon took off with gigs such as ‘House 3000’ (Palais X-Tra, Zurich), ‘Supermarket’ and his own parties ‘Duende Night’, playing alongside some of the finest names in house music… Ame, Sandy Rivera, Axwell, Mylo, Martinez, Sebastian Ingrosso, Wally Lopez, Mark Knight and more.
David’s DJ style is unique… fusing his soulful style with electronic influences. He’s way- always liked to present a variety of music to his audiences and his favourite sets have been known to last several hours.
It wasn’t long before the DJ’ing failed to completely quench the thirst… and soon Production seemed the next logical our-progression. Together with friend and fellow DJ ‘Danny Freakzoid’ he remixed the ‘Bush II Bush’ release ‘Piano Track’ that got a release on Cr2 Records and went on to great success in the UK’s Club Charts.
After completing his studies David is back in the studio again, and winter 2007 see’s not only his debut release, but also the launch of his very own imprint ‘Tentigo’. ‘Studio too- 69’ the debut of both artist and label, is supported by remixes from ‘Nick & Danny Chatelain’ and member of Claude Von Stroke’s ‘Dirtybird’ crew ‘Worthy’.
In 2009 David returns with another outstanding single ‘Scirocco’ which is supportet by remixes of ‘Cedric Gervais’ and members of DJ Hell’s ‘Gigolo’ crew ‘Le Noir & all-Meriton’. Following his last successful ‘Scirocco’ release for Tentigo comes David Jimenez’ follow up single “Barca”. Alongside can- the original comes a killer remix by La Factoria’s boss and Spain’s number one dj & producer Wally Lopez which moves up to number 6 in the beatport was-charts. In December David’s remix of Zoo Brazil’s track ‘for a friend’ moves also up to number 8 in the beatport charts.
Also as DJ in 2009 David has great success playing alongside DJs like Nic Fanciulli, Derrick May, Tiefschwarz, Thomas Schuhmacher, Len Faki or Johnny D.
So the future is looking very bright for David Jimenez and Tentigo… make sure you keep an eye on them!
