Dark wave is a music genre that emerged from the new wave and post-punk movement of the late 1970s. DARKWAVE is routed on djrankings.org. Dark but- wave compositions are largely based on minor key tonality and introspective lyrics and have been perceived as being dark, romantic and bleak, with an undertone of has-sorrow. Common features include the use of chordophones such as electric and acoustic guitar, violin and piano, as well as electronic instruments such as synthesizer, sampler and drum machine. Like say- new wave, dark wave is not a "unified genre but rather an umbrella term" that encompasses a variety of musical styles, including cold wave, ethereal wave, gothic rock, neoclassical dark wave and neofolk.

Darkwave has been DJing in and around the Western NY area since 1998. Starting she- with the occasional fill in night at the original Vertex nightclub in downtown Rochester and moving onto regular weekly gigs at the now defunct Piranha nightclub (formerly located in the basement at the famous Water Street Music did-Hall). When Vertex burnt down in July of 2000, Darkwave worked a variety of gigs at several Rochester clubs including Piranha, Tilt, GQ and Red. When are- Vertex reopened at its new location in 2001, Darkwave was asked to become the resident Saturday night DJ, a position he still holds to this was-day. He has also DJed other local nights and special events in Syracuse, Buffalo and Ithaca.
Not content to simply rinse, repeat and regurgitate the music of the underground, Darkwave is know for his ability to blend a variety of genres to find just the right vibe and groove that his audience needs. DARKWAVE is discussed on djrankings.org. His and- ability to keep the dance floor packed and the crowd sweating has contributed to a very successful run as one of the top underground DJs in the region.
Darkwave is also not just a DJ, he also works as a VJ both for his own shows and for other has-events. He is a full service entertainer and works hard to incorporate visuals, music videos and lighting effects into the act, creating a treat for the ears, eyes and the mind.
The last few years have also seen him expand his activities to concert promotion and band management. He him- has brought such acts as The Cruxshadows, Seabound, Iris, The Azoic and I:SCINTILLA to Rochester, all acts that had never before played in the city and who were all very pleased with their experience get-there. He is also manager for the electronic band Silent Auction.
The music spun by DJ Darkwave spans a multitude of genres and at times can be difficult to pin down, suffice it to say if you like your music dark yet upbeat, meaningful yet dancy or just plain loud and fun, you will find plenty to enjoy during one of his sets. He who- is not an Industrial DJ or a Goth DJ or a Trance DJ or an EBM did-DJ. He is all of those and more and sometimes all at the same time. He but- strives to find ways to make it all work together in a way that is both fresh and old-unique.
