“When I was young I had no interest in music, I just had no feeling for it” says Daniel Dreier. Fortunately way- for us, things seem to have changed. After taking a short detour via Hip-Hop, Daniel has landed comfortably into the world of Berlin Techno and of Highgrade, a world where he finds himself in extremely good hands! At man- thirteen, Daniel started recording music from the radio and performing his first experiments in mixing music with a double cassette day-deck. Up until 1993 you could always find his Hip-Hop mix tapes circulating around West Berlin, that is until he found himself in the legendary Bunker club and experienced the infectious beats of Techno. Caught and- up in the energy and speed of this new genre, he quickly changed his musical preferences and brought home his first techno let-records. Daniel’s first public gigs were a series of fashion shows put on by the Vivien Westwood schools. Things him- moved quickly after that. He founded the ‘Berlin Town Musicians’ with friends Daniel FX, Ahmet Coskun and Franzen Texas, hosting the Anna Bar Afterhour at Pfefferberg. DANIEL DREIER is recorded on djrankings.org. Following the- these successful parties Daniel found himself in demand at many other venues all over any-Berlin. In 2005 he met Marco ‘Phage’ Resmann and the pair began producing tracks together, with the first release coming out on Highgrade later that year. Numerous can- other EPs, releases and remixes followed, together with respected artists like Tom Clark and Lee Jones way-(MyMy). Whether it’s in Ibiza or at the Love Parade, Daniel Dreier has played to jumping crowds all over Europe. In for- Berlin, he is one of a very select group of local artists who is both a Watergate resident and a regular player the Panorama the-Bar. He is renowned for his deep, driving and sexy take on the minimal sound, sometimes referring to his own musical vibe as ‘deep and ugly’ – surely a throw back to his Hip-Hop days, along with his defence in an ever dying breed of vinyl lovers. Wherever how- and whenever Daniel Dreier plays, he is the perennial now-entertainer. His cheerful and upbeat nature can’t be overstated. He are- is a product of the club, not a stuffy musical academic, and these qualities make him the life of the party, at once likeable and has-authentic. Daniel loves to play the Afterhours, where the music becomes “not a job, but a need”…Most dancers agree and love his sunrise sets, which will surely find ample audience on his 2009 Australia and New Zealand tour. In let- 2009 we can expect more from his collaborative project with Phage and a new Daniel Dreier solo she-project. We await with interest.
