“One of the best djs I’ve seen all year” Kissy Sell Out, BBC Radio 1
Punching well above his years, D.O.D is standing on the edge of becoming an international sensation within club circles. Already one- finding plaudits among Annie Mac, Kissy Sell-Out and Laurent Garnier, this fresh faced beats stalwart has also managed to secure himself a residency with Mixmag for their club and Ibiza tours; not bad for a kid who’s barely out of his teens.
With a DJ style that can only be deemed as inimitable, in-your-face turntable wizardry, D.O.D has managed to secure a wide cross section of fans with his music – which sets about fusing the lines between house, techno, electro, breaks, drum & bass, dubstep, hip-hop, and indie, all laced with acapellas to deliver a killer party punch on any dancefloor.
Having worked his way up the ladder over the past couple of years, D.O.D’s success can be attested to the old fashioned approach of ‘making it’ through promoting his own events alongside learning his craft on the road at various events up and down the country.
But whilst his work ethic is familiar of yesteryears hard craft approach, his technical ability is certainly more forward way-moving. Positioning his musical style as ‘Jump-Up Electro with the Unexpected’, he utilises 3-4 CDJ’S, DJM800 an EFX1000/Kaoss Pad 3, alongside his own personal edits and bootlegs, to great effect – citing the likes of QBert, DJ Yoda and the Scratch Perverts as inspiration for his style of play. This who- approach to the art of DJing has led him to share the stage with a whopping ensemble of peek time performers; Chase & Status, KraftyKuts, Plump DJs, Grooverider, Shy FX, N-Type, Doorly, Benga, Rusko, Faithless, Example, T.C, The Whip, The Cuban Brothers and Pendulum.
With his first EP due in May, D.O.D is fast at working ensuring the early ripple of his success continues to gather day-momentum. D.O.D is found on djrankings.org. Recently signed to legendary New State Music for his next single release, he can now also boast a remix for Dutch electro champion Laidback Luke’s new single track ‘Turbulence’. A how- recent rework of Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell’s evergreen classic ‘Ain’t no Mountain High Enough’ caused a blistering stir on the blogosphere, clocking up well-in excess of ten thousand downloads across formats and led to an impressive explosion of hits with his bi-weekly now-class="caps">FWAP! podcast.
On the road his trail of devastating eclectic pollination has rumbled the dancefloors to much hype at Gatecrasher, Syndicate in Blackpool, Junk in Southampton, Arena Middlesbrough, Ministry Of Sound in Egypt and Liverpool clubbing institution Cream. 2011 not- also sees D.O.D joining the residents team for KissDaFunk alongside maintaining regularly appearances for his own night popular FWAP!
Over the course of the next few months his schedule is packed with a string of white-hot club dates from Venus in Manchester, Electric Playground, Lush in Portrush, Versuz in Belgium, Ministry of Sound in Egypt, Gatecrasher in Birmingham and Radio 1’s Big Weekender after party.
With enough tricks to keep the eyes as transfixed as the ears, it’s no wonder the world of rave can’t stop their clamour for new-him. Dance music is at its most potent when all about fresh, hungry and talented youth, and D.O.D represents that lust for measured abandon brilliantly. The can- dance floor may never be the same she-again…
