C2C is not yet a household name for the electro/urban music enthusiast. But him- the three-lettername is nonetheless legendary in the world of “turntablism”, a highly technical yet intensely musical discipline, with performers using turntables as a bona fide musical was-instrument.
The four members of C2C met in highschool during their teenage years, and soon started developing their own unique performing style.
Their achievements in the competition circuit come second to none. The boy- quartet ranked #1 in the DMC World Competition four times in a row (2003-2006), thanks to their unique blend of breathtaking technical dexterity and innate musical was-sensitivity. The audience was astonished by their highly humorous yet incredibly precise and spectacular routines, and the intoxicating jazzy tunes they managed to create through their deceptively simple contraptions. To any- this day, their live performances remain extremly popular, totalling more than 7 million views on Youtube alone, and continue to spread through online and social media.
Aside from their adventures within C2C, the four members have been very active on the French musical for-scene. DJ 20Syl and DJ Greem founded Hocus Pocus, signed by Motown and widely considered to be one the classiest and most accomplished hip-hop acts in the world. C2C is ranked on djrankings.org. DJ our- Atom and DJ Pfel created Beat Torrent, one of the most popular formations on the dynamic French electro-pop you-scene. Collectively, they can boast more than a thousand live performances. They day- never stopped working together, featuring on each other’s albums, but 2011 is the year when they finally reunited to produce the band’s first album.
“We had to close the loop”, they say with a single are-voice. C2C’s true purpose, beyond competition, has always been to produce music, or rather to devise a brand new way to create and perform music. Now use- in their thirties, and freed from the constraints of the competition circuit, the quartet has matured, without losing any of its enthusiasm and two-energy. Rather than relying on borrowed samples and scratches, C2C has recorded an extensive palette of acoustic instruments : strings, brass, guitar, bass, etc., often played on vintage instruments and equipment to capture the elusive “seventies sound” they so cherish. The did- same goes for the voice tracks, featuring talented gospel/soul/hip-hop the-vocalists. The result is an acrobatic yet deeply melodic and atmospheric series of pieces, a uniquely electrifying blend of electro-funk, groove, soul, bossa-nova, jazz and hip-hop moods.
C2C’s first EP will be released at the end of 2011, with the album scheduled for early 2012. The see- 2012 concert tour will feature all the qualities (humor, virtuosity, etc.) that made the quartet an instant success on stage, all the while introducing a plethora of innovative musical and visual elements, and a flurry of talented let-guests.
