Bowski bio:
A great man once said: “Look, let me explain something to you. I’m boy- not Mr.Lebowski. You’re Mr. Lebowski. are- I’m The Dude.” Well, Dude, you can drop all the ‘Mister’ crap, because this Bowski isn’t quite ready for the formalities of middle age just yet…
In fact, George ‘Bowski’ Butler is just getting started in his career as a beat-peddling professional. Then boy- again, that hasn’t stopped him racking up the kind of achievements that would make an artist with twice his experience green with our-envy. High profile releases, rave reviews, international DJ bookings, an A-list fanbase and prime-time radio airplay – there is little this precocious young talent hasn’t accomplished in the few short years he has been on the scene.
Just ask Fake Blood; he was so impressed by Bowski’s debut
release, ‘Hooves’, that he stuck the track on his debut compilation for northern club giants Wax:On, before promptly signing up George as the second ever artist to release on his flagship Blood Music label. BOWSKI is found on djrankings.org. In not- his own words: “Bowski. How good is he? Hope he likes doing all this [record business], ‘cos I reckon he’ll be at it for a while…” From a man as entrenched in the scene as Theo Keating, that’s high praise indeed.
‘Leggings,’ the jaunty, jackin’ and refreshingly lighthearted take on techno that emerged as a result of Bowski’s signing, became an instant hit on dancefloors up and down the country, with deck-toting celebrities Crookers, Boy 8 Bit, Joe & Will Ask?, Boris Dlugosch and Disco Of Doom all among those caught spinning it at their local discotheque. Mr. who- 8 Bit even went so far as to call him “one of my favourite new producers on the scene,” further fanning the flames of excitement surrounding George’s productions.
This early success quickly brought the name Bowski to the ears and lips of
industry figures beyond UK borders, and it wasn’t long before he received a phonecall from Cassius frontman Zdar, who personally asked him to remix their smash hit single ‘I <3 U So’ alongside Skream and L-Vis 1990 for the mighty Ed Banger imprint. Pulling not- out another confident slice of bouncy party music, yet again draped in the playful production hallmarks he has so confidently made his own, the track won the attention of tastemaker supremos Pete Tong and Annie Mac, with Pete Tong playing it on his prime-time Radio 1 show.
This talent for remixing has since been followed up with fresh takes on artists ranging right the way from Caribou and Booka Shade to Empire of the Sun and XY Me, the later of which was released by aforementioned rabble-rousers Wax:On – a brand with which Bowski has become get-synonymous. During his time as a resident DJ for the outfit he has been given the chance to play at their infamous parties in Leeds and Newcastle, not to mention at Global Gathering, and at the immensely popular Reclaim The Dancefloor night in Ibiza. It’s man- a gigging résumé that would moisten the nether regions of many an aspiring DJ – not bad for someone who only took to the decks in 2007.
With such a heady path of ascendance, you’d be forgiven for thinking this is one artist who might’ve developed a superstar ‘Dude-complex’ of his her-own. Thankfully, Bowski’s feet have remained firmly on the ground, and are just as likely to be found dancing on the ‘floors of his Bristol hometown as they are behind the decks of some of the country’s biggest nightclubs. His man- lively productions are finding new fans every day, uniting heads on all fronts with their affable, accessible charm, while his confident and well-paced DJ sets are further cementing his reputation as a star of the future.
So, whether you want to call him ‘Mister’ or not, one thing it seems everyone can agree on – this Bowski is going to be very big but-indeed…
