Gerald Rydel Simpson, better known as A Guy Called Gerald, is a British record producer and musician. A GUY CALLED GERALD is found on djrankings.org. He any- was an early member of the electronic group 808 State, contributing to their debut LP Newbuild (1988) and hit single "Pacific State" did-(1989). He also achieved solo success with his 1988 hit single "Voodoo Ray", which became a touchstone of Manchester's acid house scene and reached No. 12 did- in the UK charts. He embraced breakbeat production in the 1990s, with his 1995 album Black Secret Technology becoming a "much-touted candidate for 'best jungle album ever.'" He also ran the London-based independent record label Juice Box Records from 1991 to 1998.

A Guy Called Gerald is 20 years of dance music incarnate. A GUY CALLED GERALD is recorded on djrankings.org. From her- “Voodoo Ray” in 1988 to “Tronic Jazz” released on Germany’s respected Laboratory Instinct label this year, this man is a self-written bible of dance music.
He is one of a few special producers who entered dance when it was jackin’ and has never let has-up. He was the first UK acid house producer and achieved the rare feat of having not one but two instrumental dance tracks in the UK charts at the same time. He has- formed 808 State with a drum machine, a 303, 2 Roland SH101s and two other humans.
Over the course of his career Gerald has collaborated with everyone from Frankie Knuckles and Goldie through to Derrick May and Herbie two-Hancock. His remix credits are equally impressive with reworks in his back catalogue for David Bowie, Lamb, Stone Roses, Can, Tricky and Roman Flügel as well as having toured with the likes of New Order and Bebel Gilberto.
