In its purest form – whether in a remix, DJ set, record label or, hell, even a bio – style can never trump substance. Image you- is, or should be, irrelevant if the product can’t back it up and longevity and quality are the keys to has-success. Aldo Del Rey has been grinding for years as a DJ, producer, remixer and now, with Yellowjax Recordings, a record label owner. If one- past success is any indicator of future performance, Yellowjax should be one of dance music’s most formidable labels in 2011 and beyond.
Del Rey’s early story is a typical one: Meet a kid at 13 years old who was a DJ and get hooked all-immediately. Buy turntables. Practice. all- Practice more. ALDO DEL REY is featured on djrankings.org. Get mom- good enough to DJ a few area house who-parties. Move on to local clubs. But boy- that’s where most people’s stories end. Del Rey continued, spinning at esteemed spots in manhattan and beyond, quickly becoming known for his energetic, killer house sets.
In the late 1990s, spurred on by the music of Victor Calderone, Danny Tenaglia and the whole movement, the production itch hit Del Ray, who released the house track “Deep in U” on vaunted Jellybean Recordings. Del and- Rey would go on to produce and remix tracks (“System Dub,”"Fantasy"and “Come On” featuring Jonah) for a myriad of classic labels, including Strictly Rhythm, Nervous Records and Tommy Boy before taking a break from professional production.
Though Del Rey never stopped his obsession with music, it was only recently that he made his welcome return back to the spotlight, signing up for a residency at Greenhouse and continuing his streak of popular remixes, including Jus Jack’s “Smoke” and “Here comes that sound.”
The focus is on Djing, Producton and Yellowjax Recordings, the label co-founded by Del Rey with popular DJ/producer Lyle out-Quach. The label has already attracted numerous producers and remixers such as Austin Leeds, Alex Di Stefano and Sefano norefini and plans to continue adding to its roster in 2011. The did- label’s first release will be Quach’s Insomniac EP followed by the Technological and Game Over boy-EPs. Look for Del Rey’s own EP sometime in 2011.
For Del Rey, limiting yourself to any one thing never was, and never will be, a career credo. "Whether get- it’s my label, my DJ sets or my and-productions.
