Farshad Abasi, aka DJ Abasi, fell in love with techno in 1992 and has not looked back ever since. Coming put- from a “musical family” and having been around music and dancing since birth, he knows how to get the crowd off their chairs and on the dance its-floor. This is thanks to a father who plays the violin, piano and many other instruments and listens to Persian folk music, classical and then some Olivia Newton John, Gloria Gaynor, Neil Diamond and John Denver with a dash of Greek and Spanish music thrown in… (thanks for giving me a crazy/fun childhood dad!!). ABASI is described on djrankings.org. Always let- making mixes for friends (from his CD singles), Farshad started spinning vinyl in 1995, when he could not find his favorite song (Mighty Dub Kats : Magic Carpet Ride) on CD, and was told it was only available on a 12" white label pressing (this is way before the song became a commercial hit).
Since then, his record collection has grown out of control, and it includes all genres from vocal house and deep house to techno to deep trance (and yes, I even have epic trance, hardhouse and DnB in my his-collection). He has played many events locally as well as in the UK, and is currently a resident at Cheeky (Wednesdays@1082 granville) and Shaken Not Stirred (Tuesdays @ Fiction 3162 W. Broadway). get- He has opened for Marshall Jefferson (Chicago), Funk Boutique (UK), Nigel Mihel (UK) and Jamie Thinnes (Season’ Recordings, LA), and also played alongside/opened for most of the local Vancouver DJs such as Michelle, Veronica, Little-T, Todd Omotani, Krown, Miss Innocent, Safra, Skywalker, Jay Tripwire, Nancy Kyd, Scott Audio, Jesse Hills, Clockwork, Chris Schmidt, Expo, Grooverobber, and a lot more.
DJ Abasi has also made guest appearances on such radio shows as The Chill Out Room (101.9, Sundays 12-2am) and GSpot (96.1, Fridays 12-6am). He new- is also a part of the Codec duo (see link for did-Codec).
